What does a concrete contractor do, and do you take small jobs?
A concrete contractor, often called a cement contractor, forms and pours concrete, then finishes it. For homes around Lafayette, that means driveways, patios and walkways, slabs for shops and sheds, and slab foundations for houses. We add demolition and drainage to that, so one company can cover a whole job. Small jobs are welcome too, like a short walkway or an air conditioner pad, which is just a small slab.
How thick should a concrete driveway be?
It depends on what will park on it. A loaded work truck or an RV needs thicker concrete than a family car. We set the thickness by that use and write it into your quote. Every one of our new driveways and replacements gets rebar or wire mesh and control joints.
How long before I can drive on new concrete?
The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association says curing typically runs 3 to 7 days. Concrete keeps gaining strength for weeks, and its strength is normally tested at 28 days. Warm weather speeds up early strength gain, and cool weather slows it. Before we leave, we tell you the day your new driveway can take a car.
Do you stamp or stain concrete?
We pour driveways, patios and walkways with a broom finish, a fine brushed texture that gives shoes and tires grip. Stamped and stained concrete is a separate trade, so a decorative concrete company is the right call for that look.
Do you tear down houses?
Our demolition work covers small structures only: sheds, carports, patio covers, decks, fences, small garages and outbuildings. Old concrete slabs and foundations come out too, and we haul the debris away. A house or a mobile home is a job for a company that takes down whole buildings.
Do you do drainage work?
Yes. We put in French drains, plus yard drainage like catch basins, channel drains, downspout drain lines and regrading. A French drain is a gravel trench with a perforated pipe, sloped to carry water away. Septic systems go to a septic installer, and plumbing goes to a licensed plumber.
What area do you work in?
We are based in Lafayette, in Lafayette Parish, and we work about an hour's drive around it. That covers the Acadiana towns from Opelousas to New Iberia and Crowley to Breaux Bridge, and east to Baton Rouge. All of our work is in Louisiana.
How does pricing work?
We price each job after we look at it, in person or from your photos. Size and thickness drive the price, along with any tear-out and how easy the site is to reach. On drainage jobs, the length of the run and where the water can go change the price. Call or text (337) 520-8615, and the quote comes to you in writing.
